Daily Lives of High School Boys - Anime Review

Intro:

For the last 6 months I've been reluctant about starting this blog and my channel, mostly because I didn't know what I should review. BUT, finally I managed to convince myself that I had to review something, so what's better than reviewing an anime about nothing? So, as you might know already, this is a review of the anime known as "Daily Lives of High School Boys" or in Japanese "Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou".

Synopsis:

When it comes to premise, these kinds of anime (Slice-of-Life) are quite difficult to explain, but I'm going to try my best to explain the show to you. So... what is this show about? 3 words: Read the title. Nothing more, nothing less, it's an anime about the daily lives of high school boys... and it's pretty accurate if I say so myself.

Plot:

Let's talk about the plot. Is this anime original? Yes...no...kind of.
It's original in the way the jokes and sketches are well executed, they're well written as well, with some exceptions. There's one particular sketch that comes to mind that has an awesome beginning, an average progression and the ending is 50-50, half good, half deadpan which might not suit some people's sense of humor. But you'll most likely be able to relate to the jokes and the characters (which are interesting and at the same time average). The pacing... the word I use to describe it is: frozen. It's the typical endless years of high school, but the good thing is that they make a joke about that. Most of the jokes involve the 3 principal characters: Tadakuni, Hidenori and Yoshitake, and other characters like Motoharu (the "delinquent"), Mitsuo, and the student council staff. The characters are really good, maybe because of their voices.

Animation/Art:

In terms of animation and art we have the normal one:

And then we have other types, such as:

And:

This anime is all about visual gags, such as a very subtle joke that is presented like this:

If you can guess the joke, you'll be very pleased with the jokes of the show.
Overall the animation and the art are average, with some funny exceptions.

Voice Acting:

Before you ask, there is no dub, and I seriously hope it doesn't get one, for obvious reasons.
The voice acting it's the other thing, other than the visual gags, that is important in this anime.
The way the Seiyū deliver their lines is great. Irino Miyu, the voice of Tadakuni is also the voice of Tsubasa from Metal Fight Beyblade and Minato Namikaze from Naruto; Sugita Tomokazu, who voices Hidenori, is also the voice of Edgar Valtinas from Inazuma Eleven and Hasgard Taurus from Saint Seiya Lost Canvas; and Suzumura Kenichi, the voice of Yoshitake, is also the Seiyū of Genzo Wakabayashi a.k.a Benji Price, depending on your country, from Captain Tsubasa and Ryuutaros in the Tokusatsu Kamen Rider Den-O. It's, all around, a good cast with a great past,
present and future.

Overall/Recommendation:

Overall, this is an entertaining little anime that, depending on your sense of humor,
you will watch multiple times, or not. As I'm writing this review I've seen this anime countless
times, and, strangely enough, it doesn't really get boring for me. It makes fun of certain
anime cliches, has a lot of good jokes (my favorites being the "Literary Girl" sketches),
and as I've said before, it is a good show. But as I've said before, it's all about your sense
of humor, and the fact that this anime is a Slice-of-Life, which doesn't have a fix plot,
may turn some people away from the whole thing.
So let's see... if you like shows like: Lucky Star, Gj-bu and Minami-ke, watch this,
you might like it. On the other hand if you prefer animes with long story, fights, and other
typical Shounen/Shoujo kind of stuff, don't watch this, because if that's the case,
you'll be disappointed.

So this was my first review, I hope you like it. If you prefer watching a video review check
my channel : (video coming soon...)

I accept criticism, so go ahead and tell me what I can do to be a better reviewer. I'm also
accepting requests for reviews and I'm recruiting members for the blog and for the channel
But I'll make a separate post for that.
That is all for today, thank you for reading and as always, stay frozen!

Introduction

Before I start posting reviews, might as well introduce myself.
I'm Fr0zenW0lf ( just because I don't want to reveal my real name...for now ) a 18 years old, lazy bastard, laid back, musician, who likes to critic stuff, and essentially is a geek. In a near future I want to write music for anime, animated movies and video games... a big dream, huh? Yes I know.
One of the reasons I'm doing this is to make friendships and get some contacts, because the more you know, the better. I plan to go to Japan in two years. I would tell you more, but you wouldn't care, so I'm leaving this for (maybe) a future podcast series. For now I'm looking for members for the FrozenZoneReviews channel and blog (this one).
Either way, I hope you enjoy future posts (such as reviews, rants, podcasts, etc...). For more information go to the "About" page.

Enjoy, and stay frozen!
